Bolivia 2007 Feb Update
February 22, 2007
We are enjoying our temporary stay here in Alabama but as Eric’s brother writes to us about
Bolivia, we know we should be there working. So much has happened this month that I felt I would relate a bit of what has been going on so that you, our partners, could pray and rejoice with us.Two recent contracts were drafted this month. One was a contract we felt we had seen the end to. World Vision. They had a staffing turn over and the new members of their board were not interested in focusing on camps as much. The work involved to get remote village children to camp was more than they wanted to take on. But, as it turned out, they signed on for the year, contracting Camp to conduct camps for up to 1,500 kiddos of all ages. Most of these kids speak Quechua and the camp team is trying to train as many Quechua speaking counselors as possible in the next few weeks. (Pray for those Christian teens who can speak both Quechua and Spanish to come forward!)The other contract was with Compassion. This contract grew into something that seems like a bite too big to chew. But, lucky for us, we only have to meet the needs of this contract one day at a time. Compassion would like Camp to work with their programs for the next 5 years. More than 3,000 youth each year could benefit from these efforts, a total of 15,000 over the next 5 years. Our job as a camp staff would be to train some of the adults that work with Compassion enabling them to hold their own camps. Our job, as well , would be to conduct several youth camps a year to meet the needs of the Compassion requirements. By training and focusing on their leaders, it is an amazing opportunity to better meet the needs of their cities and carry out camps in parts of Bolivia that we will not be able to reach and may never see in our life spans. (Pray for the impact and the workers and the details of these camps.)At camp we are preparing for several work teams this summer to help us expand the mess hall once again. Our current mess hall is nice but our needs are expanding and Finally! We will get a new kitchen. There were some pretty high winds this last week at camp and more than a dozen trees fell. Eric is preparing for quite a bit of chain sawing when he gets back in 3 weeks. We are lucky none of the trees hit the buildings. He is so attached to the trees some of them were just too hard for him to cut. Looks like I will finally get the chance to encourage him to cut even more of them.Bolivia, on the political side is still in shambles. They are also experiencing major flooding. A lot of the low land areas are under water. Family after family has been left homeless and the diseases that will follow the flooding will devastate even more families. The high lands have been cut off from the low lands due to the flooding. Roads have been washed out and fruit is getting more and more expensive. As well as some other goods.Carnival (Mardi Graw) has started and the ikkyness of it all is keeping the city hopping. Usually many camps are held during this time to keep teens and youth off the streets and give them a better activity to do. It is a difficult time of year for Christians. As for me, no baby yet. We are still waiting. (Pray we are able to get the papers in time for the trip home.) Thanks Guys.
We have a new web site. A great friend has put it together, touched it up, and spent hours and hours working on it. I am not a computer person so I appreciate her efforts more than she will ever know! I hope that you all would visit the site at some point.
Emily for our family!
Waiting for baby Lizarazu
February 20, 2007
Emily and the kids have been in the States since Christmas and Eric arrived a few weeks ago. Taking care of dentist apointments and other miscellaneous appointments, before the baby is to arrive the end of this month. Please pray for peace for the Lizarazus in these days, just before the new baby arrives!
